Kapalua - Epilogue
I mentioned over the weekend that Morgan Pressel hadn't finished in the Top 10 since Wegmans. Over her last five starts going into Kapalua, Pressel's record was MC, T32, T60, T54, T47. I'm guessing I wasn't the only one who didn't pick Morgan to win this week. The win will likely bump Pressel into my final Top 30 list next month.
Scoring at Kapalua averaged 73.8 strokes, about a stroke higher than the seasonal average coming in. Only 15 players completed the event under par and only the top three plus Sun Young Yoo managed to avoid posting a score over par any of the four days.
Angela Stanford has now finished in the Top 5 in her last four consecutive starts (she was entered but DNS'd at Navistar). Cristie Kerr's T8 was her fifth straight Top 10 finish while Katherine Hull's T16 was her sixth straight Top 20.
Stacy Lewis finished tied for fifth and earned $47,077. Her total of $84,977 comes up about $60,000 short of the amount she needed to earn Category 10 status for 2009. Stacy will now look to the Q-School Final in December to earn her card.
Lorena Ochoa finished T14 -1, only one shot out of the Top 10. It was only her third finish of 2008 outside the Top 10 and only the twelfth in the last three years.
Linda Wessberg earns this week's Big Surprise Award. Her tie for eighth was only her second Top 10 of the season and the money she earned from it clinched a spot in the Top 80 and Category 1 status for next year. Congratulations Linda! The Big Disappointment goes to Hee-Won Han, who missed the cut by a shot. Secondary BDs go out to the Bubble Girls who also missed the cut and didn't even give themselves a chance to improve their status. I'll update those races a little later today.
