Hana Bank KOLON Championship - 1st Round
Katherine Hull leads by two after the first round of the Hana Bank KOLON Championship. Amy Yang is in second place, Chae Young Yoon is third while a group of eight others are tied for fourth.
Hull bogeyed only once in the windy damp conditions, posting a 66. Yang is a two-time winner on the LET this year and is in this field on a sponsor's exemption. Yoon is a KLPGA member who has had less than stellar results in 2008. These three were the only players to post rounds under 70 on Friday. The other scores:
70 Ji-Yai Shin, Jeong Jang, In-Kyung Kim, Karen Stupples, Mi Hyun Kim
71 Helen Alfredsson, Hee-Won Han, Inbee Park, Se Ri Pak
72 Morgan Pressel, Hee Young Park, Sun Young Yoo, Sophie Gustafson
73 Song-Hee Kim, Jane Park, Kristy McPherson, Leta Lindley
74 Na Yeon Choi, Seon Hwa Lee, Jee Young Lee, Sun Ju Ahn
75 Paula Creamer, Ji Young Oh, Hye Yong Choi, Anna Rawson
76 Shanshan Feng, Louise Friberg, Meena Lee, Nicole Castrale
77 Suzann Pettersen
79 Angela Park
Eun-Hee Ji and Joo Mi Kim were disqualified while Angela Park and Ji Young Oh were assessed two-stroke penalties. LPGA.com explains why:
|
WD/DQ: In the first round of the Hana Bank KOLON Championship, Eun-Hee Ji and Joo Mi Kim were disqualified because Kim's caddie and Ji accepted transportation between the 18th green and first hole when making the turn. Because the violation was not discovered until after their round had been completed and scorecards signed, the two were disqualified. Angela Park and Ji Young Oh were assessed two-stroke penalties for the same infraction, however, rules officials were notified of the situation when Park and Oh were on the third hole and the issue was resolved prior to them signing their scorecards, thus the two-stroke penalty. |
Not the start to a title defense that Suzann Pettersen (nor I) was looking for - one birdie, six bogeys. Good starts for three high-profile Korean players who haven't been doing much lately - Mi Hyun Kim with a 70, Inbee Park and Se Ri Pak with 71s.
The rainy conditions of Friday morning (play was delayed by 30 minutes) will give way to sunny ones for the weekend with temps around 60 degrees. It isn't often the weather gives this event any breaks.

I went back to bed before this was announced, but your readers may be interested in my play-by-play and color commentary:

It’s only based on scoreboard-watching, although I heard at Seoul Sisters.com some were able to catch live feeds online from MBC around 11 pm Pacific time….
