Tseng has clinched ROY
It's funny how people like me have to figure this stuff out piece-by-piece because nobody at LPGA headquarters does...
I just noticed that Na Yeon Choi is not in the field at Kapalua. Therefore...
Yani Tseng has clinched the 2008 Rolex Rookie of the Year award.
I'm sorry I missed that possibility in yesterday's post, and I'm sorry you have to rely on me to make these announcements.

waitasec!
So if she wins this week and Tseng misses the cut, that’s still not enough? Now I get your point!

thanks...
…for making me check the Kapalua field myself. Just noticed Momoko Ueda is in it! Didn’t see her name there before. But that makes me wonder if Choi can let the LPGA know sometime this week that she does plan to play in Hawaii after all. I’d consider that (slim) possibility before you declare Tseng the winner. (Although even if Choi were to win 1 of the last 2 events and outpoint Tseng, would that really make her ROY, in your view?)

inexact science
The “Final Field” listing often changes in the days leading up to the event. Maybe they should just call it “Field” until it really is “Final”? Naah, too reasonable. So I’ll concede that Choi might be a last minute add. Especially if she reads my blog and finds out she still has a chance to catch Yani if she plays!
To answer your question – no. Now if Choi happened to win BOTH Longs and Kapalua, she would have two wins to Tseng’s one major. I would consider that a wash and let the other stats decide. It would be very close.
