Lorena Ochoa Invitational - 3rd Round
Angela Stanford (-10) leads by one shot going into the final round of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational. Annika Sorenstam is in second place at -9, Katherine Hull is third at -8, Jee Young Lee is fourth at -7 while Sun Young Yoo is fifth at -6.
Stanford still leads but several of her competitors made up significant ground on Saturday. Angela bogeyed twice early and was only able to make those shots up at 6 and 16, posting 72. Sorenstam and Hull made the biggest moves with rounds of 67 and 66 respectively. Annika even took the lead at -10 when she birdied 14 but The Guadalahara Gauntlet (holes 15-17) slapped her down - bogeys at 16 and 17 - before a birdie at 18 left her at -9. Hull went out in 31 and tacked on another birdie at 16. Yoo aced the 13th to reach -7 but took bogey at 17 to fall to fifth. Lee, Yoo, Brittany Lang, In-Kyung Kim, Cristie Kerr, Jeong Jang and Teresa Lu all moved to within the "magic" six-shot window of Sunday contention.
Yani Tseng was -8 at the turn but then played holes 10 through 15 in +6 to ruin her title hopes. She's now at -2 T13, eight shots behind. Also falling back were Karen Stupples and Meena Lee, whose 75 and 76 respectively also dropped them into the T13.
So will Stanford hang on to make my pre-tournament pick a correct one or will Sorenstam make my bold August prediction an incorrect one? Will Hull grab her second win of the year or will Lee snag the second of her career (and the one I've always thought that would jump-start her to greatness)?
