Hana Bank KOLON Championship - Final Round
Candie Kung took the lead with an eagle at the par-5 9th and held on to win the Hana Bank KOLON Championship. It was her fourth career victory and her first since 2003. Katherine Hull finished second at -5, one shot behind while Jee Young Lee, Sophie Gustafson, Jeong Jang and Hee-Won Han tied for third at -4.
Kung began the day two shots down from leader In-Kyung Kim but birdies at 1 and 6 moved her into a tie for the lead. A bogey at 8 set her back only momentarily. The eagle at 9 (only one eagle had been carded through the entire first two rounds) boosted Candie to -6 and solo first. Inky was falling back with bogeys at 6 and 8, and two more at 11 and 12 knocked her out of the running. Hull started her run on the back nine - after trading birdie at 10 with bogey at 12, Katherine reeled off three birdies in four holes to reach -5. Gustafson played the front in 34 and a birdie at 14 put her at -5. Jang got to -5 after birdies at 9 and 10.
Kung kept posting pars down the stretch but none of her pursuers were able to apply any more pressure. Hull parred the last two to finish at -5. Gustafson bogeyed 15 to fall two back and then couldn't find another birdie. Jang bogeyed 13 and couldn't recover. Jee Young Lee birdied 14 and 15 to join the club at -4 but couldn't get any closer. After a bogey-birdie exchange at 13 and 14, Han couldn't do it either. Kung nearly put the tournament away with a birdie at the par-5 16th, opening up a two-shot lead, but dropped that shot when she bogeyed 17. Par at 18 secured the victory.
More stuff to come in the Epilogue.
