Bell Micro Classic - 2nd Round
Cristie Kerr fired a 66 (-9 overall) to take a two-shot lead at the Bell Micro Classic. Angela Stanford managed a 67 herself to move into second place at -7. Michelle Ellis is third at -6, Reilley Rankin is fourth at -5 while six others are tied for fifth at -4.
The winds were even stronger today and the constantly changing directions and intensity disrupted scoring. Only 11 players broke 70, only 15 more broke par and only 19 players total are under par for the event. Which makes Kerr's and Stanford's performances all the more impressive. Cristie bogeyed only once all day and Angela somehow played bogey-free. Stanford is attempting to get back on track as she has only one Top 10 finish and three missed cuts since early May. In 2007 she racked up 12 Top 10s and ranked as high as #6 in the Hound Dog Top 30 earlier this year. Ellis and Rankin are both looking for their first Top 10s of the season. First-round leaders Anna Rawson and Shanshan Feng both slipped to 73s but are still in the hunt as part of the group tied for fifth. Song-Hee Kim's early rush to the top blew up with a double-bogey at 7 as she went on to post 73 (-2 T15).
The cut rose to +4, claiming Jee Young Lee, Stacy Prammanasudh, Meena Lee and Teresa Lu. Count Paula Creamer among the living - she put up a 69 and goes into the weekend at +3, a distant 12 shots out of the lead. Also teeing off early Saturday will be Jane Park, Se Ri Pak, Catriona Matthew and Giulia Sergas.
