Samsung Update
The updated money list standings just got posted at LPGA.com and there's Angela Stanford in 18th place, about $10,000 behind Hee-Won Han. The only question now - is my interpretation of the Samsung qualifying criteria correct or is the San Francisco Chronicle's?
If I'm right, Stanford is out because three players not atop the money list are guaranteed spots in the 20-player field - Ji-Yai Shin, Juli Inkster and an as-yet-unnamed sponsor's exemption (the Samsung fact sheet calls it a "Championship Committee invitation"). If the Chronicle is right, Stanford is in because the Hall of Fame exemption and the "Championship Committee invitation" are somehow both covered by the invite to Juli Inkster. I heard Mike Ritz say during yesterday's telecast that a Stanford win would put her into the Samsung but until I see confirmation, I have to believe he was relying on the Chronicle's information (or another source making the same assumption).
I'll go ahead and say it - I expect I'm going to wind up wrong. This tournament's history of altering its criteria at late dates to suit its purposes outweighs any analysis I could make, even given that the document I was analyzing came directly from the tournament office.
