Michelle Wie: Yes to Q-School?

Steve Elling of CBS Sports.com is reporting that Michelle Wie will enter the first stage of LPGA Qualifying School at Mission Hills Country Club Sept 16-19.

Not that she had too many attractive options, but a good decision IMO.  Given the state of her game recently, I would say her chances of earning a card and some level of 2009 priority status are good.

good for her

I don’t think anyone outside her inner circle has a clue who’s calling the shots, but maybe Michelle is taking control. This seems like a good decision. It will be a media circus — and it should be fun. Will the Golf Channel show up?

heard anything about Stacy Lewis?

…or any of the international players like Becky Brewerton, Melissa Reid, Yuki Sakurai, and others who have expressed interest in going for the LPGA?

No doubter

Wie had to do this and it’s probably the smartest move she has made in some time. She’s been showing some form on the LPGA Tour, so maybe she can parlay it into a card.

Has the top 80 already been established, or do the Bell Micro results count toward that?

still counting

The Top 80 will be determined after the last full field event, which is the Kapalua Hawaii event (Oct 16-19). So counting the Bell Micro, players actually have four events to settle that score. I’m leaving Samsung out of that total because none of the players in that event will be on the Top 80 bubble.

Blasberg

I’m worried about Erica Blasberg, who is about $1,000 and change from the #80 slot and will likely miss the cut this week.

On a related note, will it be the top 81, since Annika is retiring, or do they not take that into account?

Nope

It doesn’t work that way. Number 81 doesn’t get to move up if anybody above her elects to not play. It won’t happen (probably) but if at any time next year she changes her mind about “steppingaway-ment”, Annika could come right out and start playing immediately because of her performance this year.
