Total Putting Look-Back

I recently plugged in the numbers for Total Putting from 2006 and 2007 and thought I would share out my spreadsheet containing the last three seasons' data:

Total Putting 2006-2008 spreadsheet

Star-divide

Observations - A lot of TV commentators pointed out Seon Hwa Lee's great putting stroke during her rookie year in 2006, and for good reason.  Lee edged out Shi Hyun Ahn and Cristie Kerr to rank first in TP that year.  Since then however, the Stone Buddah has slipped significantly - 39th in 2007 and 63rd in 2008.  Her results after reaching the green in regulation is the whole reason for this drop.  Lee's putting average in '06 and '07 was virtually the same and in '08 actually improved 0.3 strokes.  Her PPGIR of 1.75 in '06 has fallen dramatically to 1.81 in '07 and 1.82 in '08.  Seon Hwa still has a great stroke and is still one of the ten best players in the world but her putting numbers haven't held up.

Six players made the Top 20 of Total Putting all three years and eight others made the Top 20 twice:

3  Shi Hyun Ahn

    Paula Creamer

    Cristie Kerr

    Mi Hyun Kim

    Lorena Ochoa

    Annika Sorenstam

2  Hee-Won Han (NR '07)

    Inbee Park (NR '06)

    Laura Davies (22 '07)

    Grace Park (23 '08)

    Natalie Gulbis (28 '08)

    Gloria Park (34 '07)

    Young Kim (53 '08)

    Mhairi McKay (66 '06)

The numbers in parentheses indicate the position and year that player did not make the Top 20.  I listed Han and Inbee at the top of the two-timers because of Hee-Won's maternity leave and because Park has only been on Tour two years.  The appearance of Grace Park here is the most pleasant surprise for me - if only the rest of her game had been as sharp!  Natalie Gulbis is no surprise - unless you've been foolish enough to believe those folks who keep telling you that Natalie's putter has been holding her back.  Even before I developed Total Putting, I knew that her putting numbers over the last few years showed that certainly has not been a problem.

Jeong Jang has been an outstanding putter as well, ranking 14th, 27th and 24th the last three years.  Suzann Pettersen ranked 26th in 2007 while winning five times but moved up to 14th in 2008 with no wins.  Song-Hee Kim ranked 124th (out of 146) as a rookie in 2007 but moved up to 26th in 2008.  Se Ri Pak was 8th in 2007 but finished 43rd in 2006 and 71st in 2008.

In-Kyung Kim

Will be interesting to see if she putts as well in ’09 as ’08. As high as I picked her to finish this season, I sure hope so!

Schedule

My apologies for changing the subject, but I am planning a trip to Phoenix in March for a few days. My question; is the Phoenix International still on? My schedule reads TBA.
