Honda LPGA Thailand - 3rd Round

Paula Creamer fired a 67 (-11 overall) and carries a three stroke lead into the final round of the Honda LPGA Thailand.  Lorena Ochoa and Brittany Lang are tied for second at -8 while Karrie Webb is alone in fourth at -5, six shots behind.

Creamer seized the lead with three straight birdies at 12, 13 and 14.  Another birdie at 18 extended her margin to three.  Ochoa also closed strong - birdies at the final two holes moved her into the tie for second.  Lang drove the green and made a 50-footer for eagle at the par-4 5th but otherwise couldn't get anything going on Saturday - that eagle put her at -8 and she only birdied one hole (along with one bogey) the rest of the way.  Webb's 69 put her among the only four players within six of the lead, but a bogey at 18 kept her from being a little more within reach.  Morgan Pressel, who was tied for second entering the day, struggled to a 76 and fell to -2 T12.

Star-divide

Hee Young Park is now tied for fifth with Angela Stanford and rookie Mika Miyazato at -4.  Amazing stuff considering Park was tied for last after Round One.  She's played the last two rounds in -11 and would be tied for the lead had she only played even par on Thursday.  Seven shots is normally too far to come back and win but it might be a little more likely since these players have only four others to pass over the final 18 holes.

Most of the time when those large Sunday comebacks have happened however, the players who were overtaken weren't the caliber of Paula Creamer, Lorena Ochoa, Brittany Lang and Karrie Webb.  So we have conflicting indicators as to what will transpire.  It should be an entertaining finish that would have made for some nice tape-delayed Sunday morning coverage on Golf Channel had the new TV contract already kicked in.

I can't see all 4 coming back to the field....

But it all depends on Creamer. If she can shoot par or just a little bit better on the front tomorrow, she’s putting a lot of pressure on even Ochoa and Lang to come and get her. With their advantage on the par 5s, though, they could have a chance to do just that!
