Honda LPGA Thailand - Epilogue
Just when you thought Lorena Ochoa's #1 position in the world and HD rankings was being threatened by Misses Creamer, Stanford and Shin, she chalks up another victory. Lorena had gone three straight events without a Top 10 before winning at Siam CC this weekend. Of her 25 career victories, 22 have come in the last 36 months.
Although neither quite got the finish they were looking for, Brittany Lang and Angela Stanford are still rolling along as two of the hottest players on Tour. Lang's T4 was her seventh consecutive Top 10 finish and Stanford's T7 was her eighth straight.
The scoring in Chonburi was much more to the players' liking than it was at Turtle Bay. The average of 72.6 was more than two strokes lower than for the SBS Open. The elite field helped the average some but I'm sure the hot and calm conditions suited everybody better. That average was however, the highest in the three year history of the Thailand event (by 0.6 strokes over 2006).
The Big Surprise Award goes to rookie Mika Miyazato. I'm not too surprised at Mika's sixth-place finish but since it was the first of her career and against an outstanding field, she wins the award hands down. Lots of Big Disappointment candidates this week, so I'll let three of them share it. Hee-Won Han finished +7 T46 while Suzann Pettersen and Seon Hwa Lee wound up +6 T42.
