HSBC Women's Champions - 1st Round

Paula Creamer, Angela Park and Jane Park all posted 67 to share the first-round lead at the HSBC Women's Champions.  Seon Hwa Lee and Ai Miyazato are tied for fourth one shot back while five others are tied for sixth, two shots behind.

The two Parks each birdied five times with no bogeys.  Creamer bogeyed the 1st but collected six birdies to tie for the lead.  Miyazato would have been tied as well but she bogeyed 18.  Lee would have led outright if not for bogeys at 16 and 18.  The notable scores include:

Star-divide

69  Lorena Ochoa, Angela Stanford, Eun-Hee Ji, Se Ri Pak, Gwladys Nocera

70  Katherine Hull, Natalie Gulbis, Shanshan Feng, Michele Redman, Heather Young

71  In-Kyung Kim, Ji Young Oh, Mi Hyun Kim, Brittany Lang, Momoko Ueda

72  Ji-Yai Shin, Yani Tseng, Suzann Pettersen, Song-Hee Kim

72  Hee Young Park, Juli Inkster, Sophie Gustafson, Catriona Matthew

73  Cristie Kerr, Hee-Won Han, Jee Young Lee, Christina Kim, Anja Monke

73  Karen Stupples, Morgan Pressel, Amy Yang, Stacy Prammanasudh

74  Na Yeon Choi, Inbee Park, Karrie Webb, Candie Kung

75  Laura Diaz, Pornanong Phatlum

77  Helen Alfredsson, Nicole Castrale

79  Vicky Hurst

Only 17 players are more than seven shots off the lead so very few should feel like they are in trouble.  The rounds by Helen Alfredsson and Vicky Hurst surprised me as they both played well in their first events.  Na Yeon Choi was +4 through four holes - shocking after her first two performances - and she recovered to +1, only to bogey the last.  Morgan Pressel's rollercoaster was even more pronounced.  She was +3 after two holes, birdied four times to reach -1 after 15 but doubled 18 to finish with 73.  Karrie Webb took 7 at the par-4 7th - otherwise, her day would have been a solid one.

Nice to see Se Ri Pak back in form.  Starting on the back nine, she finished up with birdies at 8 and 9 to post 69.  I hope that's a sign of things to come.
