HSBC Women's Champions - 2nd Round
Paula Creamer and Jane Park remain tied for the lead at the HSBC Women's Champions. Katherine Hull and Mi Hyun Kim are tied for third at -5 one shot behind while Sun Young Yoo and Ai Miyazato are tied for fifth at -4.
Creamer fought off a couple of back nine bogeys to post 71 while Park matched that score with two birdies and one bogey. Despite back-to-back bogeys at 6 and 7, Kim put up her best number so far this year - a 68. Hull and Yoo climbed the board with rounds of 69 as Miyazato slipped back slightly with a 72.
First-round stars who shone less brightly on Friday included Seon Hwa Lee (74 -2 T11), Lorena Ochoa, Eun-Hee Ji (both 73 -2 T11) and Angela Park (76 -1 T20). Moving up into contention were Lindsey Wright (69 -3 T7), Amy Yang (69 -2 T11) and the quartet of Suzann Pettersen, Juli Inkster, Song-Hee Kim and Meena Lee (all 70 -2 T11). 26 players are within five shots of the leader so the weekend looks to be a wide open affair. For more details on Round Two, be sure to check out TC's post and updates at Mostly Harmless.
According to the tournament page at LPGA.com, one hour of coverage of Round Two will be aired on Golf Channel at 1:30pm today. I hope that is true - today's GC online schedule says that they will be showing PGA Championship highlights.
UPDATE: So our "one-hour highlight show" was only two minutes of Round Two highlights before GC broke away to show an hour of Tiger Woods winning a golf tournament two years ago. Is that what we have to look forward to on Saturday and Sunday?
UPDATE2: A technical glitch prevented GC from delivering an hour-long show today. Hopefully their glitches will be fewer over the weekend.

I wrote to GC yesterday
My letter:
The Web site at the Ladies Professional Golf Association (lpga.com), with whom, I believe, you have a 10-year contract, says the Golf Channel is scheduled to air the HSBC Women’s Champions at the following times:
Mar 06 : 1:30-2:30 PM ET
Mar 07 : 5:00-6:00 PM ET
Mar 08 : 5:00-6:00 PM ET
Your program schedule does not concur. My question is, will I be able to watch LPGA programming this weekend? Thanks for your help.
THEIR REPLY:
Yes, you are correct those are the airtimes for a 1 hour H/L of the event.
We did not have the rights to event until yesterday and we have updated our programming.
Thank you for watching the Golf Channel

In GC’s defense, they got back to me in less than 2 hours.

great work!
Thanks for confirming that. But if they didn’t get the rights until “yesterday”, why was LPGA.com listing those times all this week? Wishful thinking?

maybe not so great
GC is not showing the women. Instead we’re treated to 2007 Tiger. How freaking wonderful!
Here’s the url for the Golf Channel contact form.
Please take a minute to express your displeasure.

they showed two minutes of highlights at 1:30
and then went to the 2007 PGA show. Thanks a lot, GC.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T, or lack thereof
Maybe this is a topic more appropriate to WaggleRoom, or your Inside the LPGA Web cast, but does it seem Golf Channel is displaying even less respect for the LPGA than they have in the past? Is it time to kick Carolyn to the curb?

hard to tell yet if this is GC or LPGA screw up (or both)
but the response you got from your e-mail suggests maybe GC promised something they weren’t ready to deliver. They obviously had access to the originating coverage for the two minutes we saw – maybe the lateness of the rights acquistion didn’t give them enough time to edit an hour program.
They certainly have enough time for Saturday and Sunday’s shows.

New response from Golf Channel
The 2007 PGA Championship H/L Tiger Woods will air at 1:30pm in place of the HSBC Women Championship H/L due to a technical problem with the feed.
