LPGA: Shin Victories All Count

Per Connie Wilson at the LPGA office, Ji-Yai Shin's three victories in 2008 as a non-member count as official career victories and count in her Hall Of Fame total.  Thanks to Connie for clearing that up and thanks to Bill Jempty for inquiring and passing along the info!

Ji - Yai Shin 's 3 Official Wins !

It is great to learn that Ji – Yai Shin of South Korea now has had three
OFFICIAL wins in 2008. That means she earned FOUR POINTS
which include two points for the 2008 BRITISH OPEN on the LET Tour
PLUS ONE POINT for the 2009 HSBC Champions in Singapore.
That gives SHIN a grand total of FIVE points for her possible Hall of
Fame career. When she won the British Open last year, there was a huge
cry and dismay when the monies that she had earned were UNOFFICIAL
because she was an unofficial member of the LPGA. NOW are the
2008 monies are now official ? IF the Hall of Fame points are official,
does that mean the monies are official ? Any comments will be most welcome
to clarify some more on these vexying questions !

yes, 5 HOF points

four wins plus the bonus point for the British Open (the four LPGA majors each count for two points against one for a regular tournament). Official money is another matter – I usually don’t dwell on that too much unless that affects the player’s future status in some way (such as for the US Open money Stacy Lewis won last year). I haven’t taken the time to see if the money Laura Davies earned before becoming a member is included in her career money total, but for Jee Young Lee that pre-membership money is NOT included.

they usually draw a line on the career overview .pdf file

separating pre-member from member earnings.

They also track unofficial money in the year-by-year performance chart you get by clicking on the link to the right of the career overview link on a player’s profile page. Don’t know if they’ve been keeping up with that so far this year. Last I checked, they had Shiho Oyama not even playing this season, when she got sponsor exemptions into both early-season Asian swing events.
