Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

With Ji-Yai Shin never a factor and Ai Miyazato falling apart in the middle of her final round at the Studio Alice Ladies Open, Mi-Jeong Jeon seemed to have the tournament wrapped up. Although Sakura Yokomine had birdied the 15th to get to -3, Jeon still held a 3-shot lead with 4 holes left to play. But she bogeyed 15 and 18 to fall back into a playoff with Yokomine, and lost it on the 2nd hole (fittingly, the 18th again). Yokomine, who had suffered a similar collapse when she lost to Ji-Yai Shin just over a year ago in Japan, was the 2nd telegenic JLPGA star to benefit from a recent Jeon meltdown. Miho Koga, who won the JLPGA's last major of 2008--and the season money title--when Jeon finished bogey-double, was not in the field this week, but she will be joining Ji-Yai Shin, Momoko Ueda, Shiho Oyama, and the rest of the JLPGA's regulars next week as everyone gears up for the tour's 1st major of 2009, the Salonpas Cup.
