Lopez heading drive to bring LPGA back to Atlanta

This announcement came out over a week ago but since the LPGA posted it today, I thought I would follow suit:

ATLANTA, March 30, 2009 – Eagle’s Landing Country Club today announced the formation of the Grassroots Classic hosted by Nancy Lopez, which will be held on April 28, 2009. Proceeds from the charity tournament will benefit the Metro South Golf Charities (MSGC). The event is designed to raise awareness and funds to help MSGC search for and secure a title sponsor for the return of a Ladies’ Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournament to the club and Atlanta.

Any push to bring a Tour event back to Atlanta is good news to me.  Seeing the LPGA put the notice up on its website confirms my suspicion that the Tour would like nothing more than for this effort to succeed.  Lord knows, we need more events in the continental U.S. - only 16 of the 29 scheduled tournaments in 2009 fit that description.
