Priority? What Priority??

From the official Priority Eligibility document posted at LPGA.com dated 04/27/09, the day immediately following the Corona Championship (event #7 on the schedule):

Reordering: For the 9th through 15th LPGA tournaments of the year, players who were in Categories 13 through 20 at the beginning of the season will be reordered with priority based on the order of the current year's LPGA Official Money List as of the 7th official LPGA tournament of the year, falling in priority behind Category 12.

This document is the Priority listing that was used from the beginning of the season through last week's Michelob Ultra Open.  The only difference between that document and the current Priority document is that Michelle Wie is now listed in Category 8 (as she should be).  The expected changes to Categories 13 through 20 which I quoted above are not reflected, and the list of alternates in the field at Sybase (event #9) clearly follow that unaltered portion of the Priority list.

Why weren't those changes made, especially when the change to Wie's status WAS made?  The wording for moving players into Category 8 exactly matches the wording for reordering Categories 13 through 20.  If anybody at the LPGA office is reading this, what is going on here?

I posted the expected changes over two weeks ago, saw the "updated" Priority document the following day and have been waiting for the rest of the changes to be implemented.  I don't believe there is a misunderstanding about the event numbering (as Phil brought up in the comments) because Wie was re-positioned correctly.  There have been several times where I've erred in my estimations of such things because I didn't have complete information or just plain messed up.  But the passage from Page 11 of the document is so specific and clear, I am totally bewildered here.

What difference does it make?  Today Becky Lucidi and Carri Wood teed off while Anna Nordqvist could not.  Jimin Jeong would not have had to Monday-qualify, which would have allowed Tracy Hanson (the third-place Monday finisher) into the event.  I imagine for those two who are not playing, it is a rather big deal.  Next week at Corning, which other deserving players will get left out?  As described, the LPGA Priority process is outstanding - one I've praised ever since it was announced.  As executed, it is a complete sham.

Wie was adjusted on 4/27 other players should have also been.

At least I feel good players were notified at least before last weekend. Why else would have J. Jeong entered Monday Q?

Maybe the lack of high priority playuers not playing Mexico makes more sence now also.

Add Kang and Nari Kim to the list of should have been in. You hear that Korean Nation. Ellis, Lucidi and Wood should thank the LPGA. At least Sarah Kemp snuck in!!!!

It ashame, really. I love rewarding good play for a current 7 week season. It was a great idea. To bad the LPGA had 2nd thoughts!

Unless someone tweets Kemp, Paige or Hage we may never find out!

No Way

Looks as if Cornings’ field is reshuffled. Go figure. Why a week late? Either the LPGA forgot, changed the memo or the Thailand event was not counted. How will this effect the rest of the season? Do we add a week for the next reshuffle? Will there be more events ignored for the High Priority players, maybe Evain? Also seems Brandie Burton was not shuffled, she should have been.

In fact the LPGA did decide to do as the memo said and lump together all the high Priority players. I like that, just makes the whole situation in Mexico more confusing.

Throw out Thailand theory

new list just doesn’t jive. Hanna Williams would be higher with her 14th plave fiinsh in Virginia. I think the LPGA just plain forgot or couldn’t figure the reshuffle out in time. Could close to 2 weeks not be enough time? Dog ,how long did it take you to figure it out.

good catch, Phil

They have certainly started using the reordered list at Corning. I can’t explain why Burton wasn’t moved down or why it took them an extra week to implement the new list. Once I had the updated money list after Corona, it took me less than two hours to figure out what the new order should be and about 30 minutes to write it up. I keep sayin’, those guys need to hire me to keep their books straight!
