Sybase Classic - 2nd Round
Brittany Lincicome leads by two, halfway through the Sybase Classic. Suzann Pettersen and Ji Young Oh are tied for second at -9 while Helen Alfredsson and Wendy Doolan are tied for fourth at -6, five shots back.
The miniscule numbers of Thursday morphed into more mundane ones today. Lincicome avoided bogey for the second straight day (mainly due to having reached the green in regulation 33 times in 36 holes) but carded a mere 69 to take over the top spot. Pettersen and Oh each bogeyed twice but collected enough birdies to post 70 and 69 respectively. First-round leader Alfredsson reached -11 with a birdie at 1 but five bogeys in an eight-hole stretch sent Helen on her way to a 76. Doolan's bogey-free 68 is her first round of the year in the 60s.
The cut was at +1 literally all day. Wendy Ward, Laura Davies, M.J. Hur, Karine Icher and Meredith Duncan wound up on the good side of that number while Seon Hwa Lee, Sun Young Yoo, Lindsey Wright, Kristy McPherson, Mi Hyun Kim and Inbee Park ended up on the bad.
21 players sit in a logjam at -5, -4 or -3, among them Song-Hee Kim (whose 67 was low round of the day), Karrie Webb, Michelle Wie, Paula Creamer and Jiyai Shin. Names you might not expect to be in that group include Sandra Gal (-5), Moira Dunn, Becky Morgan (both -4), Lisa Strom, Louise Stahle and Chella Choi (all -3). Any of those players could go low on Saturday to move into contention - the question is who? Surprisingly, none of those 21 are Lorena Ochoa, Yani Tseng (both -2), Angela Stanford (-1) or Cristie Kerr (E). They will need to go low two consecutive days to have any chance of reeling in the lead trio.
