Season-ending Houston event now a certainty
The LPGA announced today that the season-ending event in Houston will be held under the title of the LPGA Tour Championship. This is the event that was originally sponsored by Stanford Financial before its infamous demise. With no announced replacement sponsor, this limited-field event will apparently be owned and operated by the Tour itself. Next year's LPGA Championship will also be wholly owned by the LPGA. UPDATE: According to this USA Today article, IMG will own the event.
With 120 players in the field, the old ADT Championship format went out the window but the new event tries to keep part of that flavor. The usual top 70 and ties will make the cut after Friday but a second cut will be made to the top 30 players for the final round.
So how long will it take for Ms. Bivens to start plugging her Tour Championship as "the fifth major"?
