Big Three Stats Update
Since GIR is not a stat of my creation, I couldn't accurately call this a Frankenstat Update. Here are the current top 20 players in Total Driving, GIR and Total Putting - the three area-specific numbers I like to reference the most when analyzing a player's performance. The complete listings of each stat are after the jump.

Things That Jumped Out At Me - Lorena Ochoa is not in the top 20 of Total Driving or GIR, two stats she has dominated in recent seasons. She's #25 in TD and #27 in GIR. How does a player win twice while falling significantly in her peripheral stats? Easy - Lorena won Thailand and Corona, two events where the stats weren't kept. I guarantee she would be in the top 20 of all three if we had those numbers.
Cristie Kerr, Angela Stanford and Yani Tseng are the only players currently ranked in the top 20 of all three stats.
Paula Creamer leads the Tour in GIR, hitting greens at an .822 clip. In-Kyung Kim is second at .754. That's a staggering .068 difference, meaning that for every 18 holes played Paula has hit 1.22 more greens than Inky. The Tour average GIR appears to be about .650 so Creamer hits the green in regulation 3.10 extra times per round than the average Tour player, a tremendous advantage. So why hasn't Paula won yet in 2009? She ranks #62 in Total Putting.

Regarding Paula, possibly that 60 foot put on 18 at Corning will bring back some memories of her putting skills.
On another note I was checking out the list of pre-qualifiers to the Woman’s US Open. I couldn’t help but notice that Natalie Gulbis is not on the list, yet Sophie Gustafson has made the list. Does this mean that Natalie will have to qualify at a local qualifying round?
Gulbis
Looks like Natalie may have go through sectional qualifying, not local qualifying. According to the Open’s pdf on such things, Natalie would have to be in the LPGA money list Top 10 on June 1 (ergo, right now) to avoid the sectionals. Assuming, of course, that she entered by the May 6 deadline.
Gulbis
Thanks HD I hope everything works out OK for her. We’ll just have to sit back and wait.
others with putting woes
imagine how well Shin, Pettersen, Lang, Miyazato, NYC, and V Hurst would be doing if they were putting well!
