LPGA Championship - Saturday Update

Play was suspended due to bad weather at 4:41 local time this afternoon.  24 players were still on the course, including 14 of the top 15.  Anna Nordqvist is still in front at -10 through 9 holes (-2 on the day with birdies at 3 and 4).  Lindsey Wright sits in second place at -9 (-3 on the day) through 10.  The current top 20 looks like this:

-10 Anna Nordqvist (9)

-9  Lindsey Wright (10)

-8  Na Yeon Choi (11)

-7  Kristy McPherson (11)

-6  Nicole Castrale (9), Hee-Won Han (10)

-5  Angela Stanford (13), Jiyai Shin (12), Stacy Lewis (12), Katherine Hull (10)

-4  Irene Cho (F), Amy Yang (17), Minea Blomqvist (14)

-4  Jin Young Pak (12), Kyeong Bae (10)

-3  Yani Tseng (F), Song-Hee Kim (F), Sophie Gustafson (F)

-3  Becky Morgan (14), Lorena Ochoa (12)

If they get to play any more this evening, it won't be for more than a hole or two.  I'll update again later tonight and again tomorrow morning after the third round is complete.

UPDATE:  Golf Channel just reported that play will resume at 7pm EDT.  There may be enough light to play for an hour and a half.

UPDATE 2:  Nordqvist sank a birdie putt from just off the green at 15 just moments after the horn sounded to retake the lead at -10.  She had bogeyed the long par-5 11th after driving and playing her second into the long right-hand side rough.  Wright birdied 11 to tie for the lead, went ahead when Nordqvist bogeyed but dropped back into the tie when she bogeyed 13.  Choi returned from the weather delay to bogey 12 (her second straight bogey) but curled one home at 16 to get back to -8.  NYC was visibly upset when just as she was standing over her ball at the 18th tee, the horn sounded - preventing her and Kristy McPherson from completing Round Three.  The players had been told that play would be stopped around 8:15 but the horn sounded at least five minutes prior to that.  Eight players have to finish up starting at 7:30 this morning, and the final round is expected to start around 9am.

Jiyai Shin was making a move - birdies at 14 and 17 got her within two shots at the time - but a bogey at 18 ended her day at -6.  Jin Young Pak made the most headway after play resumed - birdies at 13, 16 and 17 and a nice par save at 18 - and stands at -7 only three shots back.  Angela Stanford is five shots behind but could easily have been within two.  She was unable to can two birdie putts of less than eight feet and missed a par putt of similar length at 18.  At least she fared better than Katherine Hull - double-bogey at 13 (she was so close to the lip of the greenside bunker, she had to play back out into the fairway) and bogey at 14 leave her at -2.

Currently there are 14 players within six shots of the lead.  Since Nordqvist and Wright each have three holes of their third round left, what they do early this morning could change the number of that group considerably.

Round Three Complete at 8:15am Sunday:  Nordqvist birdied 17 and Wright parred out.  Anna is -11 and leads by two shots with Jin Young Pak and Na Yeon Choi tied for third at -7, four behind.  NYC bogeyed 18, adding insult to last night's injury.  Only 10 players are within six of the lead - those four plus Jiyai Shin, Kristy McPherson (both -6), Angela Stanford, Stacy Lewis, Kyeong Bae and Nicole Castrale (last four at -5).  The top two will have to struggle to give anybody outside the Top 10 a chance to win.
