Around SBN: When Dwyane Wade Lost His Cool

After The Fall

More than once during the coverage of the LPGA Championship, I heard the commentators mention Anna Nordqvist's caddy Gustaf.  I thought it was just a coincidence that his name was the same as Louise Friberg's fiancée/caddy - Gustaf seems to be a common enough Swedish name.  Imagine my surprise when I read Friberg's blog and discovered he was one and the same.  During the State Farm Classic, the two of them decided it would be best if he didn't caddy for her any more.  Nordqvist hired him on Monday and...

The rest of Louise's post is almost heartbreaking.  She's happy for Anna and Gustaf's success but that only magnifies the struggles she's undergone this year even more.  Her third paragraph details too well the inner turmoil that I'm sure many professional golfers deal with every day:

I actually just bought a ticket for my mom to come support me at the Rochester tournament. This year has been extremely rough on me and I need some extra support right now. I had breakdowns more or less all week long last week. Golf can be so mean sometimes. I have confused myself by telling everyone that I am OK. Well, I am not. This year has been so difficult and draining on me that I just almost don't know where to begin picking up the pieces that are left of me. I guess I am going through the ultimate golf boot camp at the moment. I am sick of having to explain what and why is happening with my season this year. I owe myself and excuse of being so hard on myself and from now on I am putting myself highest on my priority list.

Hang in there, Lollo.  You had your entire game together on multiple occasions last year, and you can certainly do it again.

Good detective work! I had wondered the same thing (although, when we saw him at Bulle Rock, I thought the caddy might be Anna’s brother, because they had similar looks/bodies). I hope Louise pulls out of her slump. She seems like such an open person, which can leave you vulnerable. It’s very mature, I’d say, that she’s realized that she doesn’t have to pretend that she’s fine for the sake of others. That’s a big weight off her shoulders, I’m sure.

her win bought her time

So many players struggle after getting their 1st win. Just think Julieta Granada, Meaghan Francella, Inbee Park…I’m sure you can name more off the top of your head. But at least they all have time to work the kinks out and get back on track. As long as Louise isn’t injured, she has time to play her way through this. But if she’s hurt, rest is the best medicine. I’ll bet Michelle Wie and Ai Miyazato would agree!
