Last Chance

It occurred to me this morning that for several players teeing it up today at the Wegmans LPGA, this week would be their last chance to improve their Priority Status for awhile.  Next week's Jamie Farr Classic is Event #14 and the money list standings after Farr will re-adjust the Priority list.  With the Farr also being the lead-in event to the U.S. Open, nearly all of the top players will use that as a tune up.  Consequently the cutoff point for the field in Toledo will be higher, preventing those players with lower status from competing.  Add to that the fact that the LPGA schedule over the next two months is terribly sparse for the lower echelon members.  Evian is a limited field, the British has its own qualifying criteria, then they take two weeks off and come back for Solheim.  After Wegmans and Farr the lesser Tour players won't be able to play until August 28 at Safeway - that is, the ones who can get into the field with all of the top players on site after the downtime THEY have had.

The players I'm talking about are currently from about Position #155 on down, where a typically strong tournament field gets filled.  These ladies are playing at Wegmans but quite likely won't make the Farr field:

Dina Ammaccapane

Sarah Kemp

Maggie Will

Haeji Kang

Paige Mackenzie

Na Ri Kim

Brandie Burton

Brandi Jackson

Allison Hanna-Williams

Jackie Gallagher-Smith

Michelle Ellis

Becky Lucidi

Carri Wood

Young-A Yang

Michelle McGann

Cindy Rarick

Becky Iverson

The players in bold have earned zero dollars on Tour this year.  If any of these 17 can make the cut tomorrow, it will go a long way towards boosting her priority to a place where she can make the Safeway and get more chances.  Any of them who miss the Wegmans cut may find themselves so far down the money list ladder by the end of August that they will have no chance to avoid Q-School this fall.  Good luck, ladies.
