Wegmans - 1st Round
Sandra Gal is your overnight leader at the Wegmans LPGA. Jiyai Shin is one shot behind while Becky Lucidi is in third place with three holes left to play in her opening round.
A weather delay of nearly three hours Thursday afternoon prevented 30 players from finishing their round, as play was called due to darkness at 8:35pm. Gal was -5 through 7 when play was first stopped, having birdied five straight holes after an opening par. Sandra completed her round with three more birdies to post 64, her career best number. Shin also played in two shifts and got home in 65. The scores (with unfinished rounds noted in parentheses):
|
-6 Becky Lucidi (15) -5 Kristy McPherson, Michelle Redman -4 Morgan Pressel, Stacy Lewis, Diana D'Alessio, Brandi Jackson, Haeji Kang -3 Na Yeon Choi, Helen Alfredsson, Ji Young Oh, Michelle Wie, Karen Stupples -2 Wendy Ward, Brittany Lincicome, Amanda Blumenherst, Sarah Kemp (15) -1 In-Kyung Kim, Katherine Hull, Lindsey Wright, Sun Young Yoo, Natalie Gulbis E Karrie Webb, Ai Miyazato, Anna Nordqvist, Meg Mallon, Sarah Lee (17) +1 Paula Creamer, Yani Tseng, Brittany Lang, Jee Young Lee, Paige Mackenzie (16) +2 Inbee Park, Vicky Hurst, Kyeong Bae, Laurie Brower (16), Michelle McGann (16) +3 Cristie Kerr, Seon Hwa Lee, Hee-Won Han, Jeong Jang, Cheyenne Woods +5 Song-Hee Kim +8 Eun-Hee Ji |
Surprisingly poor starts by Paula Creamer, Yani Tseng, Cristie Kerr, Song-Hee Kim and defending champion Eun-Hee Ji. Kerr was -4 through 6 holes but played her final 12 in +7 (five bogeys and a double). Ji only birdied once as nine bogeys sent her towards the bottom of the board. As noted above, Cheyenne Woods didn't light it up but in her first LPGA event she didn't play badly - four bogeys and a birdie at the par-4 2nd hole.
Play has already resumed as of 7 this morning and I expect the second round to begin by 9. DOH! If I'd looked at the tee times I would have known they were going to start the Round Two groups at 7:35.
