State Farm Classic - 1st Round

Se Ri Pak and Jee Young Lee are tied for the lead at the State Farm Classic.  Both players posted rounds of 66 and lead Kris Tamulis by one shot.  Suzann Pettersen, Natalie Gulbis and Anja Monke are tied for fourth after rounds of 68.

Pak's bogey-free round featured four birdies on the back nine as she came home in 32.  Lee birdied three straight on her front nine (Panther Creek's back nine) and also played her last nine in 32 after taking a lone bogey at 14.  Tamulis bogeyed once, at 15, en route to her lowest round of the season.  Other scores:

Star-divide

69  Jiyai Shin, Paula Creamer, Yani Tseng, Cristie Kerr, Seon Hwa Lee

69  In-Kyung Kim, Brittany Lang, Angela Park, Hee-Won Han, Kristy McPherson

69  Morgan Pressel, Karen Stupples, Amy Yang, Shanshan Feng, Moira Dunn

70  Angela Stanford, Katherine Hull, Lindsey Wright, Hee Young Park

70  Eun-Hee Ji, Michelle Wie, Mi Hyun Kim, Mika Miyazato, Stacy Lewis

71  Song-Hee Kim, Russy Gulyanamitta, Jeehae Lee, Il Mi Chung, Amy Hung

72  Karrie Webb, Na Yeon Choi, Helen Alfredsson, Sun Young Yoo, Kim Hall

73  Ai Miyazato, Rachel Hetherington, Laura Diaz, Becky Morgan, Young Jo

74  Ji Young Oh, Wendy Ward, Irene Cho, Brandie Burton, Haeji Kang

75  Paige Mackenzie, Maggie Will, Brittany Lincicome, Dorothy Delasin

76  Jane Park, Momoko Ueda, Candie Kung, Jin Joo Hong, Lisa Strom

While nobody went super-low, my pre-tournament expectation of the scoring got blown away by the 29 players who carded 69 (35 total in the 60s and 70 under par) and the fact that only three players exceeded 76.

FYI - nobody Twittered during their round, although many posted their scores and thoughts after they were finished.  Jane Park said she was definitely "rusty" after the weeks off resting her back.  Despite posting a 69 (her best by far of the year), all Julieta Granada had to say afterwards was how hungry she was.  I don't actually expect any players to do this during the round but I'll have to admit the debate over it amuses me greatly.

If Natalie could stay away from the bogies she would be the front runner after day one, 8 birdies and 4 bogies. Hope she takes my advice, fairways and greens, pars and birdies.
Morgan Pressel twittered about not having a red outfit to wear on day two. Not exactly sure what that means!

The red outfit was to show support for the Detroit Red Wings.
