State Farm Classic – Epilogue

Inkykim03_medium

In-Kyung Kim collected her second career victory just six days before her 21st birthday.  That by itself is impressive enough, but the weird thing is that our last three events in a row have been won by players who have not yet turned 21 - and for each of them it was their second career victory.  Ji Young Oh will be 21 on July 3rd and Yani Tseng won't reach drinking age until next January.  The Kids Are Alright!

Do the other Tour players and officials ever refer to Kim as "I.K."?  I don't recall seeing any print media use that shortcut for In-Kyung's name.  I think I first heard Andy North call her that last year (and hated it then), and noticed Mark Rolfing using it constantly yesterday.  Somebody at Seoulsisters started calling her Inky a couple of years ago and I've been using it every chance I get.  It's a lot cuter nickname than I.K. so the TV guys need to wise up.

Star-divide

Funky stuff going on at LPGA.com this morning - stats say they've been updated but they obviously haven't and all of the Performance Chart pages are erroring out - so this Epilogue is flying blind.

The average score at Panther Creek was 71.14 - outstanding but still 0.3 shots above last year's 70.83.

Great to see Se Ri Pak and Hee-Won Han back in the running.  It was a bad week overall for the Asia-phobes.  Eight of the top twelve hail from the Far East and four of the top five are from Korea.  I'm sure the folks at NBC consider themselves lucky that Paula Creamer, Angela Stanford and Cristie Kerr were in the hunt - otherwise they might never deem to cover the LPGA again.

Since Pak is a Hall-of-Famer and Han is a Top 30 player, I'll make them both honorable mentions and give the Big Surprise Award to Amy Hung.  Amy did finish in the Top 10 at Sybase but got beat out for the Big Surprise that week by Louise Stahle, so here's her belayed recognition.  The Big Disappointment goes to Karrie Webb, who missed her first cut of the year by one shot.

I was very impressed with Anna Rawson’s closing -7 under par 65 on Sunday. I never thought the Go Daddy.Com Girl had that kind of game in her . She deserves honorable mention.

IK

She has referred to herself as IK:

Q. Is there every any cases of mistaken identity. There is so many surnames Kim. So many last names Kim. Are there cases of mistaken identity?
IN KYUNG KIM: Even like first tee (when) they introduce our name, it’s In Kyung Kim. They can’t pronounce. One day at McDonald’s, he asked me how to pronounce your name. I go it’s like I.K. Kim. Even my caddy goes—actually my new caddy goes In Kyung. It’s easy to say I.K. or In.

thanks Sag

I hadn’t seen that. If she likes I.K., I’ll shut up about it.
