U.S. Open - Sunday Live-Blogging

1:20pm - The final groups are about to tee off (Cristie Kerr and Eun-Hee Ji start at 1:30).  Momoko Ueda is making the best run among the early starters - she's -3 on the day through 8 and +5 overall.  Paula Creamer birdied 1 to reach +5 but has parred five straight since.  Nobody has moved into the magic six-shot window as yet.  Of those who started in that window, none have progressed through their first hole or two - none have faltered, either.  He Yong Choi has the best round completed so far at 68 while Jessica Korda carded 69.  So the early numbers resemble yesterday's.

1:25pm - Candie Kung birdied 1 to reach +2, four shots behind Kerr.  Ueda bogeyed 9 and falls to +6.

1:35pm - Brittany Lincicome bogeyed 3 to drop to +5.  Jean Reynolds and Teresa Lu both parred 1.

Star-divide

1:40pm - Watching the board this week has been a little disorienting for me and I think I just figured out why.  Usually my attention is drawn by players moving up suddenly (birdies and eagles).  This week, most of the motion is created by players moving down suddenly (bogeys and worse).  Just thought I'd share that with you.  Lookout!  Kung just birdied 2 as well to go +1.  Kyeong Bae birdied 3 and is now +3.

1:45pm - Kerr bogeyed the par-5 1st (for the second time in four days).  Ji parred it so the lead is down to one.

1:50pm - Lu and Reynolds both bogeyed 2 and both fall to +3.  Jiyai Shin just finished with a 68, +7 overall and T18.  We'll see where +7 is at the end of the day.  Here's what the board looks like:

-1  Kerr

E   Ji

+1  Kung

+3  Bae, IK Kim, HY Park, Reynolds, Lu

+4  Pettersen

+5  Creamer, NY Choi, SH Kim, Yoo, Lincicome

2:00pm - Only took three holes (and three bogeys) for Ueda to fall back to even par on the day and +8 overall.  Ji bogeyed 2 to fall two shots back at +1.

2:05pm - Lu birdied 3 and Inky birdied 5 and are now tied for fourth at +2.  Sun Young Yoo tripled the par-4 7th to go +8.  Bae bogeyed 5, falls to +4.

2:10pm - Creamer bogeyed 10, falls to +6.  Kerr birdied 3 and takes a three shot lead.

2:15pm - Lu bogeyed 4 and drops to +3.  Lorena Ochoa just birdied 12 to reach +6.  She has four birdies and a double-bogey (at 7) and is -2 on the day.

2:20pm - Park double-bogeyed 5, drops to +5.

2:25pm - Ji bogeyed 4 and falls to +2.  Kerr makes par (she birdied 4 the last two days) and leads by three over Kung and four over Ji and IK Kim.

2:30pm - Ai Miyazato birdies 10 to reach +5.  Lu bogeyed 5 (third in four holes) and drops to +4.

2:40pm - Creamer birdied 12 to go +5.  Miyazato bogeyed 11 and drops back to +6.  Inky double-bogeyed 7, back to +4 she goes.  Bae bogeyed 7 and falls to +5.  Kerr bogeyed 5, now -1 and leads by two.  Didn't need that, going into the tough 7-9 stretch.

2:45pm - Lu birdied 6, now tied for fourth at +3.  Only one par so far for Teresa, two birdies and three bogeys.  Reynolds bogeyed 6, falls to +4.

2:50pm - Ochoa just took her fifth double-bogey of the week and second today, at 14.  +8 for the championship.  Jennifer Song needs to play the final seven holes in +1 or better to finish as low amateur.  Jessica Korda and Alison Lee finished at +9.  Alexis Thompson finished at +11.  Kung bogeyed 7 and falls three shots back at +2.

2:55pm - Inky rebounds with birdie at 8, +3 and down by four.  Bae bogeyed 8 (three in four holes) and goes to +6.  Here is the leaderboard just prior to TV time:

-1  Kerr

+2  Kung, Ji

+3  IK Kim, Lu

+4  Pettersen, Reynolds

+5  Creamer, NY Choi, Lincicome, HY Park

+6  six players

2:58pm - Miyazato birdied 12 to return to +5.  Two-shot swing!  Ji birdied 6, goes to +1, Kerr bogeyed 6 and is now even par and leading by one.  Lu bogeyed 7 (the girl refuses to make par) and drops to +4.  Morgan Pressel birdied 10 to join the group at +5.

3:00pm - Kung birdied 8 to draw within one of the lead at +1.  Five minutes ago I was prepping for the Kerr victory march on NBC but things sure changed in a hurry!  And there's more - Inky birdied 9 (has anybody birdied 8 and 9 in the same round this week?) to reach +2.

3:05pm - The highlights showed that Kerr's par miss at 6 was from less than four feet.  Choi birdied 12 and is now +4.

3:10pm - Lincicome tapped in for birdie at 10 to go +4.  They shortened up the back nine a little more today, setting up a few more scoring chances.  Ji couldn't get up-and-down from a bunker at 7 and took bogey to fall back by two.

3:15pm - Kung putted at 9 from 12 feet for a share of the lead and it stopped on the right edge.  Reynolds bogeyed 8 to fall to +5.  Kerr's tee shot at 8 way left.  Inky's birdie try at 10 stopped on the back edge of the hole (yes, it did).

3:20pm - The course is just over 400 yards shorter than it was on Thursday.  Got 1.5 inches of rain last night, that's probably why the boxes were moved up again.  Kerr hacked her approach at 8 to the right edge of the green.  Ji's approach stopped six feet from the pin.  Bae birdied 10 and moves back to +5.

3:25pm - Pettersen bogeyed 11 by missing a three-footer, drops to +5.  Kerr lagged to about five feet.  Ji dropped her birdie and is only one behind.  Kung left her birdie try at 9 a couple feet below the hole.  Kerr saved her par.

3:30pm - Park birdied 10 from seven feet to go +4.  Inky at 11 had 12 feet for birdie and burned the left edge.  Lincicome almost hit the pin at 12 with her second (would have been a double-eagle).

3:40pm - At 9, Kerr had another long-range putt and ran it four feet by.  Ji had about 15 feet to tie for the lead but missed it left.  Pettersen birdied 12 from 10 feet to get back to +4.  Kerr saved par.  Lincicome had 10 feet for eagle but missed it left.  The birdie puts Brittany alone in fifth place at +3.  Lu bogeyed 10 to fall to +5.  Here's the board:

E   Kerr

+1  Kung, Ji

+2  IK Kim

+3  Lincicome

+4  NY Choi, Pettersen, HY Park

+5  Creamer, Miyazato, Pressel, Bae, Reynolds, Lu

3:45pm - Ji took driver at 10 and landed in the same bunker Creamer was in yesterday.  Kerr played 5-iron perfectly.  Lincicome's approach at 13 stopped about three feet away.  Suddenly Brittany is looking to get within two of the lead.  Kerr spun her approach back about 10-12 feet from the hole.  Ji chunked her bunker shot into another bunker.

3:50pm - Creamer birdied 17 to go +4 and is tied for sixth place.  Ji's third hung up in the rough short of the green.  She chipped her fourth to about four feet.  Kerr missed her birdie putt to the right.  Lincicome's birdie at 13 was actually less than two feet away.  Look out for her, she's only down two with five holes to play.  Ji lipped her bogey putt - the double drops Eun-Hee to +3.

4:00pm - Kung's third to the par-5 12th wound up four feet away.  Miyazato birdied 16 to go +4.  Kung's birdie ties her for the lead at even par.  Moving to a new post for the remainder of the final round.

Too bad

I didn’t join in and blog with sarcastic commentary. Johnny Miller would have supplied me with plenty of ammunition.
