Evian Masters - 2nd Round

Na Yeon Choi, Ai Miyazato and Becky Brewerton are tied for the lead at -9 at the Evian Masters.  In-Kyung Kim is in fourth place at -8 while five players - Paula Creamer, Song-Hee Kim, Sophie Gustafson, Karine Icher and Yuko Mitsuka - are tied for fifth at -7.

The birdies were a-falling as four players carded 66 and 20 of the 90-player field broke 70 (as opposed to 12 who did it Thursday).  Brewerton went out in 31 highlighted by an eagle at the par-5 7th and her fourth birdie of the day at 11 put her at -11, up by three shots.  Becky bogeyed 16 and 17 to fall back into the three-way tie at -9.  Miyazato bogeyed the par-5 15th but still got home in 66 with five birdies on the back, two of them coming at 16 and 18.  Choi's round of 68 featured a couple of bogeys alongside a streak of four birdies in six holes.  Inky birdied 17 late in the day to move into solo fourth.  Gustafson and Song-Hee joined the 66 club by catching fire late on the front nine.  Sophie birdied 6 of 8 in one stretch while Kim had five in a row going into the turn.  Mitsuka played bogey-free with a front-nine 31 and a birdie at 18.  Creamer was -1 through 4 but finally got going (I say that from a perspective of having picked her to win this week) and three birdies in the last four moved her into contention.  Icher kept the home folks' hopes alive with a steady 69.

Star-divide

The cut was +3 and 16 players will be on the sidelines for the weekend, including Christina Kim, Nicole Castrale, Stacy Prammanasudh and LET money leader Gwladys Nocera.  Four other LET regulars also missed the cut - Lotta Wahlin, Emma Zackrisson, Martina Eberl and Lisa Hall.  Yani Tseng made it on the number (along with Mika Miyazato and Russian pro Maria Verchenova), Angela Stanford also made it with one to spare and Lorena Ochoa posted 69 to reach even par T43.

Brewerton's late bogeys brought a lot of players back into the mix.  With 36 holes to play and the numbers that we've seen that are available, anybody currently in the Top 30 still has a great chance to be in the hunt Sunday afternoon.  FYI - The Constructivist did his usual bang-up job of live-blogging this morning so be sure to check out his work at Mostly Harmless for more details on Round Two.
