Is the LPGA Cursed?
There was some extremely compelling golf this week in Toledo on the LPGA, but between Tiger facing down two young guns and the Federer-Roddick Wimbledon final, I doubt that even Morgan Pressel going birdie-eagle on 16 and 17 at Highland meadows to force a playoff with Eunjung Yi will matter, what with Yi's clutch putt to win on the 1st playoff hole. Even Michelle Wie going -7 over her last 10 holes to finish T3 with Seon Hwa Lee and Song-Hee Kim, much less the presence of Ya Ni Tseng, Suzann Pettersen, and Lorena Ochoa close behind them, probably won't matter all that much. (Unless the media wants to continue concern-trolling Wie by calling attention to her inability to make it 5 birdies in a row to close out her round today--and +2 performance on the par-5 18th over the 4 days....)
Let's hope the U.S Women's Open media coverage spends less time on the tour's schedule problems, lack of Wie/Gulbis, and Creamer's injury, and instead actually focuses on the great competition to come.

wishful thinking
If Creamer can’t go next week, the absence of that trio will be mentioned half-a-dozen times per day.

You're underestimating
A half dozen times just the first broadcast.

suicide
If ESPN spends the broadcast telling viewers the players they want to watch aren’t there, they’ll lose audience share. I’m not sure they want to do that.
Truth has a well-known liberal bias.

ESPN already did it this past weekend
During the telecast of the Jamie Farr on ESPN, Judy Rankin was basically roasting the USGA every chance she got with gems like this: “Natalie is just 1 of about 12 players shut out of the Open who is playing well enough to win it..” And, if Creamer can’t go, that may be poetic justice as the USGA will get exactly what it deserves. You can’t leave 7 of the top 50 women in the world out of your tournament and expect good kharma, or good ratings.
