Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Jamie Farr Classic – Epilogue

Eunjungyi01_medium

Eunjung Yi's victory in Toledo was her first as a professional.  She joined the Futures Tour in 2006 and played there two years, finishing second once in 2006.  Eunjung earned LPGA conditional status at Q-School at the end of the 2007 season.  This win moves her into the money list Top 30 and immediately raises her Priority status to Category 5.  Because of her five missed cuts and lack of other Top 10 finishes this year, Yi will not be ranked in the next edition of the HD Top 30 when it comes out next week unless she continues to shine at this week's U.S. Open.  For the second time in three events, the tournament winner is also my Big Surprise Award winner.

Star-divide

The average score this week was 69.84, the lowest average score for an entire event that I have on record, dating back to the beginning of the 2004 season.  The previous low was 70.05 at the 2004 Welch's/Fry's event where par was 70.  The Farr's average relative to par (-1.16) was not nearly as low as this year's Corning (-1.55) but almost as low as last year's State Farm (-1.17).  28 players finished double-digits under par, only one player who made the cut finished over par (Katie Futcher +1) and only 36 players total shot a composite over par score.

Reilley Rankin broke par every day and broke 70 three of the four days.  So did Ai Miyazato.  They both finished at -8, tied for 33rd place ten shots behind the winner.

Of the 453 rounds played this week, only one of them took more than 76 strokes - Angela Park shot 81 on Friday and finished DFL.  Angela was #26 in my (unreleased) rankings last week and falls to #36 this week.  I don't recall ever seeing anybody drop that drastically in one week's time.  She gets this week's Big Disappointment Award.

In the next couple of days, I'll update how the Priority re-ordering should shape up - unless the Tour office beats me to it.  What am I saying?  It's much more likely that Phil E. Blunts will beat me to it rather than the folks in Daytona.

Yi won the '05 WAPL

Which means Tiffany Joh, Mina Harigae, and Jennifer Song should be licking their lips in anticipation of becoming LPGA members.
