Friday Foursomes Live-Blogging
That's better - I'm home now with the ole rum-and-coke in hand. Here's how they stand as of 5pm ET:
|
Kim/Gulbis 2-up thru 6 Pettersen/Gustafson Brewerton/Nocera 1-up thru 5 Stanford/Castrale Hjorth/Nordqvist 1-up thru 3 McPherson/Lincicome Creamer/Inkster 1-up thru 2 Matthew/Moodie |
Moodie missed a short putt to give away Hole 2. Nordqvist sank an eagle putt at #2 earlier.
5:05pm - Inkster drained a 20-footer for parat 3, forcing Matthew to make a four-footer to halve.
5:10pm - Lincicome made a 15-footer for birdie at 5. Nordqvist missed her 10-footer so that match is All Square.
5:20pm - Inkster just made her second mis-hit on the front nine. Topped the second shot at 4. Juli had five feet to halve the hole after a fine chip by Paula, and made it. Castrale found the water at 7. Nocera made a short par putt to win it and go 2-up.
5:30pm - Gulbis had five feet to halve #9 and made it straight in. Lincicome found the water with her second at 7. Creamer sank a 10-footer for birdie at 5. Moodie missed from a similar distance to put the Americans 1-up.
5:40pm - Hjorth/Nordqvist made par at 7 to go 1-up.
6:45pm - Sorry, had to fix (and eat) dinner. Here's what happened in the meantime - Creamer/Inkster have halved every hole and are still 2-up thru 10. Gulbis just birdied 14 to go 3-up. Brewerton/Nocera birdied 12 to go 3-up. Hjorth/Nordqvist birdied 9 to go 2-up. McPherson/Lincicome birdied 10 to cut that lead in half. So each team has the lead in two matches.
6:50pm - Umbrellas are out, but the rain is rather light. Just heard my first "get in the hole!" yell as Creamer putted at 11. Castrale made from four feet to halve 13 but is still down 3.
6:55pm - Gustafson missed from 18 feet at 15, giving Gulbis the chance to end the match. She came up just short on her 15-footer, but the U.S. is now dormie going to 16. Nordqvist chipped in at 13 for birdie. Lincicome had to make a 35-footer to halve but missed right. Hjorth/Nordqvist now 2-up.
7:00pm - Both Gulbis and Gustafson played terrible tee shots at the par-3 16th. Inkster hit her approach stiff at 12. Moodie had 10 feet to halve the 12th but missed right. U.S.A. now 3-up. Three matches are 3-up and the other is 2-up. Might be done soon.
7:10pm - Pettersen at 16 - hitting from a horrible spot left and short of the green - hit a tree. Kim from a decent lie in the rough chipped to eight feet. This one's over. Gustafson chipped about 10 feet past and then conceded the hole and match. Gulbis/Kim win 4&2. Nocera pulled a 2.5 foot putt to lose #14 - still 2-up.
7:15pm - Inkster missed for par from 10 feet to drop 13 - still 2-up.
7:20pm - Hjorth saved par at 14 from four feet to stay 2-up. Nocera's third at 15 landed two feet from the hole. Castrale played hers to about eight. Stanford drained the birdie to halve the hole (after conceding Europe's short putt).
7:25pm - Moodie's birdie putt from 18 feet at 14 stopped two turns short. Inkster had six feet to halve but missed left. Her and Paula's lead has shrunk to one. Nordqvist just played a brilliant shot at 15 to set up that match to possibly go dormie.
7:30pm - Lincicome missed left from 15 feet at 15 to fall down three with three to go. Nocera chipped beautifully at 16 to set up par. Castrale had a 40-footer to win the hole but missed left. Europe is now dormie in two matches, U.S. is 1-up in the other active match.
7:45pm - Inkster's third at 15 was a chip that slid just by the hole for a tap-in birdie. Moodie missed right from eight feet and the U.S. is back to 2-up. Lincicome's tee shot at 16 was in bad shape - McPherson took unplayable and went back to the tee. And hit it to six feet. Probably not enough. Stanford took a chance on hitting a long club from a fairway bunker at 17, hit the lip and went into the deep rough. The two dormie matches are done now.
7:50pm - Lincicome made the bogey putt at 16. Hjorth made from three feet to win the match 3&2. Stanford/Castrale conceded 17 and lost 3&1. The event is now tied at 3.5 with the U.S. leading the final foursome match by 2 with 3 to go.
8:05pm - After pars at 16, the final match is now dormie. At 17, Matthew had 20 feet for birdie through the fringe and missed it left. Creamer had 18 feet and drained it to win 3&1. So the U.S.A. leads 4.5.to 3.5 after Day One.
