The LPGA is so boring and forgettable this year

That Golfweek writer and someone else(Sal Johnson?) are so right. I mean instead of having one player dominate every week and run away with the money title and player of the year awards, instead fans of Ladies professional golf are having to put up with

Two major Championships decided on the final hole by a birdie or eagle.

Tournaments in Singapore and Corning won by final hole birdies from top five ranked golfers in the world.

Tournaments like Safeway that had six or more golfers(Pettersen, Redman, Hur, Miyazato, C Kim, Nordqvist, SH Lee) with a piece of the lead on Sunday before being decided in sudden death.

Veterans showing they still have game by winning tournaments.(Pat Hurst, Karrie Webb)

A top foreign player getting her long overdue first tour victory(Ai Miyazato)

The maturing of Michelle Wie as seen at the Solheim Cup matches.

A closely fought Solheim Cup match

Oh and the last thing that makes the 2009 LPGA season so boring and forgettable. The player of the year award and #1 on the money list have at least 4 golfers shooting for them at the end of August.

This is boring????????? No the guy at Golfweek, the other person, and anyone else who passes this pathetic memo around need to go see a proctologist. Why? To get their heads out of their arse where it has to be so firmly planted. That's the only way they can be so blind to how exciting the LPGA has been in 2009 on the fairways.

Since it isn’t exactly like the PGA with it’s parity completely neutered when one player decides to enter an event and ratings that completely tank when he doesn’t, it must be boring.

Another Golfweek writer thinks well of MJ Hur

Beth Ann Baldry says she has learned to speak fluent English since Ms Baldry met her at the David Leadbetter Academy in South Korea in the spring of 2007. I never heard about that academy. I find that an interesting detail.

I thought Beth Ann

Baldry could already speak fluent English. Only kidding…

HD, noticed you got your little Tiger dig in there. Unfortunately, regardless of the sport, the fans (us guys) want a star. Even plain vanilla Annika and Lorena were better than nothing. You cannot root against a middle of the pack player. You cannot find fault with their game, swing, attitude, etc…

I do not happen to like the LPGA game on TV. However, I do go to Bulle Rock to see them. Their short games are too weak to really enjoy watching them score. Their full swing and long games are incredible, but that isn’t what golf on TV is about.

...from the land of pleasant living, Baltimore.

Every sport needs its stars. And from time to time, they also need to have a dominant player. The LPGA has had its share of those. My point is – if there is always a dominant player (and for me it seems like Tiger has been that guy forever), that often gets more ho-hum than not having a dominant player.

Your line about “rooting against” reminded me of something I’ve talked about before. I can count the LPGA players that I have rooted against on one hand. There is no other sport I’ve followed closely where I can say that. There’s just something different about it – maybe it’s as simple as not wanting to hate on a woman – but a female golfer has to do something to really get under my skin to make me want her to fail. And I felt that way before I started blogging and purposely trying to stay objective.
