CN Canadian Open - 1st Round
Anna Rawson shot a 64 and leads by one at the CN Canadian Women's Open. Suzann Pettersen is in second place, Lorena Ochoa and Amanda Blumenherst are tied for third two shots back while Momoko Ueda, Louise Stahle, Il Mi Chung and Joo Mi Kim are tied for fourth after rounds of 67.
Rawson played the back nine in -5 31 to record the lowest round of her LPGA career. She had posted a 65 in the final round at State Farm in June where she finished T13, her best finish so far this season. Pettersen went out in 31 and didn't bogey all day. Ochoa had one bogey (at the par-4 10th) but collected her first sub-70 round since the Evian Masters - hey, eight 70+ rounds in a row by Lorena was unthinkable a few months ago. Blumenherst is playing only her third LPGA event as a pro after graduating from Duke this spring. Other notable scores after the jump:

As you can see, there were lots of good numbers posted yesterday. If conditions remain the same, today's cut shouldn't be more than +2 or so. A larger number than usual will be sent home because there are 156 players in the field, about 10 more than a normal full-field LPGA event. Michelle Wie will have to hit more than six fairways and fewer than 31 putts if she wants to avoid that fate. Angela Park returned to action with a 75 (a double-bogey at the par-4 7th was the main culprit). Not the kind of comeback she would have liked I'm sure, but also not one of the 80-somethings she shot in four of her last six competitive rounds.
As I sort of expected, the streaming coverage at www.cbcsports.ca was not available in my area. I suppose that's because the CBC doesn't own the rights to stream LPGA coverage outside of Canada but...why don't they? Why didn't the LPGA just grant them permission to stream Rounds One and Two? If Golf Channel chooses not to broadcast tape-delayed coverage of those rounds, do they not waive their territorial exclusivity towards those rounds and open the door for the Tour to allow other media to present them? I'm no lawyer but it seems like this would have been a good opportunity for the LPGA to use "new media" to their advantage.
