CN Canadian Open - Final Round

Suzann Pettersen was never seriously challenged today as she cruised to a five-shot victory at the CN Canadian Women's Open.  The win is the sixth of her career but her first since October 2007.  Five players tied for second place at -10 - Karrie Webb, Angela Stanford, Momoko Ueda, Ai Miyazato and Morgan Pressel.

Starting the day ahead by five, Pettersen stumbled almost immediately.  She bogeyed 2 while Webb birdied it to draw within four.  Suzann rebounded with a birdie at 3 and another at 6 to go -15.  Stanford, the third player in the final group, bogeyed 3 and doubled 4 to fall to -6 and out of the running.  At that point Karrie was the only player closer than seven shots and she kept pace for awhile with birdies at 4 and 5 to reach -11.  Unfortunately for her, the birdies stopped coming.  Holes 6 through 12 yielded only pars for the Hall-of-Famer.  Meanwhile Pettersen took one step backward with a bogey at 8 and made the turn leading by three - a number which has been surmounted by her competition more than once over the last 23 months.

Suzann slammed the door shut with three straight birdies (10, 11 and 12) to reach -17 and go up six with six to play.  Bogeys at 13 and 14 made her a little nervous I'm sure, but Pettersen parred out from there to clinch the victory.  Webb also took bogey at 13, birdied 16 to re-take solo second but bogeyed 17 to finish in the large tie at -10.  Stanford rallied from her early misfortune with a couple of birdies and an eagle two at the par-4 17th.  Miyazato birdied four times over five back-nine holes to grab her share of second (and collect her fifth-straight finish in the top six).  Ueda posted 30 on the back nine and finished with three straight birdies to shoot 65.  Pressel carded her second 66 in a row to complete a fine comeback - she made the cut with one shot to spare and was T49 after Friday's round.

In-Kyung Kim finished seventh at -9 with her fourth sub-70 round of the week.  Jiyai Shin grabbed a share of tenth with the second-best round of the event - a 63 which was surpassed only by the Friday 62 of Song-Hee Kim, who also finished T10.

Tonight's coverage is at a slightly more decent hour - 9:30pm EDT.  I'll pass along my observations from the coverage in tomorrow's Epilogue.  Congrats to Suzann on breaking through her mental barrier in a big way!
