Golf Channel LPGA Schedule
Ryan at Waggle Room linked to the details of GC's announcement last Thursday so I'm a few days late on this news. He listed these five events which are not on any network's schedule as of yet:
Apr 15-16 Mojo 6 (unofficial event)
Apr 29-May 2 Tres Marias Championship
Jul 1-4 Jamie Farr Classic
Sep 30-Oct 3 Acapulco LPGA Classic
Nov 5-7 Mizuno Classic
The TBD event in Korea is also not listed but that's not a shock. What is shocking to me is the third event on that list, the Jamie Farr Classic in Toledo, Ohio. Why would Golf Channel omit that one U.S. event? The PGA Tour plays the AT&T National that week and the Champions Tour is off so it's not like GC won't have the airtime to at least show the Farr on tape-delay. Hopefully whatever obstacle there is will be cleared soon so the Tour's entire U.S. slate can be seen domestically.
It's a little surprising that Tres Marias and Acapulco are not on the TV schedule while the Ochoa Invitational is, although that was also the case with the three Mexican events in 2009. I would also be surprised if the seemingly made-for-TV Mojo 6 doesn't see the airwaves despite its unofficial status. Hopefully a delayed telecast of Mizuno can be worked out in the coming months a la Thailand and HSBC.
Lastly, GC needs to shore up quickly (no pun intended) whatever deal needs to be made with CBS for the first three rounds of the Kraft Nabisco Championship. ESPN2 handled that chore last year but it's doubtful the Worldwide Leader will be stepping in this time. The last thing the LPGA needs these days is for rounds of its majors to go dark.
