Navistar Card-Quest Musings
To help myself keep track of the bubble players this weekend, I took the current money list from #74 on down and cross-checked it against the Navistar field. There were a couple of things I noticed that I thought I should share.
Over half of the field is involved in the races for the Top 80, 100 or 125. By my count, 80 of the 144 players either still have a shot or are fighting to stay ahead of at least one of those barriers. As I pointed out in my Quest For The Card post last week, even players who have earned no money at all this season could climb into the Top 125 with a couple of good finishes in the next two weeks. For the record, there are twelve players in the Navistar field who are attempting to accomplish just that:
Dina Ammaccanpane, Minea Blomqvist, Song Yi Choi, Dorothy Delasin, Nicole Hage, Jamie Hullett, Kelli Kuehne, Laurie Rinker, Jessica Shepley, Christine Song, Whitney Wade, Young-A Yang
Several players who are right in the thick of this discussion are surprisingly missing from the Navistar event. #84 Eunjung Yi is just over $3000 short of 80th place but for some reason is not here. Per The Constructivist, #98 Tamie Durdin is playing in Japan to secure her status on that tour. Maybe Yi is doing the same? #100 Iben Tinning isn't playing the LET because they are off the next two weeks. #96 Anja Monke hasn't been an LPGA regular this year - her only two appearances have been at Evian and the WBO, both of which are also LET events - so I think we can consider her to be off the table.
Everyone from #101-127 who is physically able - Nicole Castrale being the lone exception - is teeing it up tomorrow. There are a few others on down the list who are not on site, though. Hye Jung Choi, Wendy Doolan, Anna Grzebien and Jackie Gallagher-Smith haven't played for several events so either injury or (in the latter case) retirement probably explains their absences. Ashleigh Simon and Carin Koch have only one and two starts all year (LET skeds for the most part). The only player in this range whose absence I can't explain away is probably the most confusing of all. Danielle Downey is a local who played at Auburn University and she finished T77 at Arkansas. Given the monetary circumstances and the tournament site, her MIA is a huge surprise.

Eunjung Yi
Eunjung Yi has at last priority 6 status locked up until 2012 I think, with her win at the Jamie Farr last year, so I don’t think she care’s that much about crossing the #80 mark..

good point
You are correct in that her 2009 win keeps her in Cat-6 through 2012. In her case she would only have real incentive to get into the Top 60, which would guarantee access to most of the limited field events.
Castrale had surgery--shoulder?
Don’t remember reading it, but remember thinking “ah ha! that’s why she hasn’t been playing well/much.”

HJ Choi
I’ve been seeing her name a lot on Happy Fan’s KLPGA updates at Seoul Sisters.com. Not too many exceptional finishes over there, but she does seem to be a regular this season.

oh
I thought I saw a paranthetical comment up there that implied you thought Castrale was heathy.

I have a problem with those sometimes
It seemed clear to me when I wrote it but if an English professor can’t follow it, that’s sayin’ something!
it was the combo of "who is physically able" and "the lone exception"
I took that to mean that Castrale was physically able but chose not to play, rather than what you intended—that she was the only one in that span not physically able!

would be nice if I could spell "parenthetical"
or remember that it was the dashes not the parentheses, between which you can find the confusing phrases!

Durdin and Park
Tamie’s definitely playing at least the next 2 JLPGA events. It’ll be interesting to see if she can get into any other Asian Swing events than the Mizuno (I don’t quite see how, myself). But now I’m wondering why Inbee chose the JLPGA over the LPGA this week (and presumably the KLPGA over the LPGA next week, too):

Anna Grzebien
out with back problems I read somewhere.
I may have an idea about Danielle Downey...
According to the Paychex.com site (they sponsor her), “Danielle missed nine full-field events while injured (not including limited field events or majors that required pre-qualifications in order to play) and has been given entry to that same number in 2010 with the money ranking she had when she entered the 2009 season, which was 89. She must earn enough money in her first nine 2010 events to get to at least that same ranking in order to keep her full-time status on the LPGA Tour for the rest of this season.”
And LPGA.com says she has already played 8 events this year, and she’s only at 152 on the money list.
Is it possible she plans to play one of the events with more money later in the month?

that would make sense except...
Of the last two events that Danielle would have enough status to enter (she’s #142), Navistar has the larger purse. CVS has $200,000 less to dole out.
prolly hurt then
NYers are tough, but maybe she’s never really gotten over that injury….
