Q-School Results
Aree Song earned medalist honors by two strokes at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament. Amateur Jessica Korda was second at -4, Jimin Jeong was third at -3 while Danah Ford Bordner, Dewi Claire Schreefel, Pornanong Phatlum and Reilley Rankin tied for fourth at -2. Those seven are joined by 13 others who earned Category-11 status for 2011.
The cutoff for the Top 20 was +2 and exactly twenty players made it, requiring no playoff holes. Players 21 through 30 earned Cat-16 status and the three-way tie for 30th place was broken by lowest score in the final round, making Jessica Shepley Player #30. Players 31 through 40 earned Cat-20 status and a five-way tie for 39th place was settled in favor of Jennifer Gleason and Japanese amateur Harukyo Nomura.
Playing conditions on Sunday were difficult with temps in the 50s and winds around 30mph. This made for some wild swings in the standings which changed several players' status. Bordner started the day at T27 and shot 68 (the only sub-70 round of the day) to move up to T4. Kimberly Kim's 70 was good enough to make a move from T37 to T14. Stephanie Sherlock and Mollie Fankhauser couldn't break par but both moved into the Top 20 anyway. Tiffany John and Alison Whitaker both shot 71 and moved from T45 to T22.
There were some heartbreakers too. Libby Smith was in the running for medalist all week but shot 82 Sunday to fall to T22 and out of Cat-11. Shasta Averyhardt was T8 entering the final round but a 79 kicked her back to T22 also. Sarah Brown was T11 at the start but 83 strokes later, she found herself outside completely at T44.
The Constructivist did his usual fine job recapping the action in Daytona so check it out. I'll put together my estimation of what the Priority List will look like and will hopefully get it posted sometime this week.
