Sirak: No Timetable For Creamer's Return
Via Twitter yesterday, Ron Sirak reported:
IMG says Paula Creamer has stretched ligament in left thumb and hyperextension of metacarpal phalangeal joint. No timetable for her return.
This after visiting doctors in Detroit, Cincinnati and Alabama...what? Birmingham? Dr. James Andrews, the Tommy John surgery guy? Calm down, he can't be the only doctor in Alabama...this is how Internet rumors get started...
It sounds like an injury that would heal given enough rest. But if the just-completed off-season wasn't enough rest in the first place, I doubt the four-week break between Thailand and the Kia Classic will be. Something tells me the first half of this season is going to be a complete washout for Paula.

GASP !! I didn’t know Twitter allowed language like “metacarpal phalangeal joint”. Next thing you know, Twittererererers will be masticating in public !! :-)
If you aren’t sure where the metacarpa phalangeal joint is and what it is used for, maybe this will help:
The metacarpophalangeal joint is the articulation between the convex metacarpal head proximally and the concave base of the first phalanx distally. These articulations are condyloid with the movemnts of flexion / extension and abduction / adduction.
No help ? (I’m with you) – how about this from WebMd – http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/98230-overview
Still no help. This is either the joint that joins the thumb to that meaty pad area of the hand, or the first joint. Either way, I know I have popped both joints doing simple things like playing catch or hooking my hand on a chair or even a pants pocket. This doesn’t have to be something she was dealing with in the off season.
Either way – it’s the left thumb and it doesn’t have much to do with the golf swing. Hogan’s book has drills to do with the left thumb off the club – so it must be pretty painful. Creamer has gone through seasons with a banged up wrist, and last season with that stomach problem.
I just wish the girl would be a little more careful and stop getting banged up all the time.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
thanks for the clarification (I think)
She had her thumb taped up several times last season, so it seems unlikely to be a brand new injury. Your final sentence says it all – Paula may just be one of those athletes who always have nagging (or worse) injuries. Which would really suck for her and the LPGA.
