State Farm Classic - 2nd Round
M.J. Hur carded her second 66 in as many days to take the lead at the midway point of the State Farm LPGA Classic. Amy Yang is one shot back in second place at -11 while four players are tied for third at -10 - Cristie Kerr, Na Yeon Choi, Inbee Park and Alena Sharp.
Despite winds exceeding 25mph, the scoring remained low with 38 rounds in the 60s. Hur went out in 31, took her first bogey of the week at #1 but birdied 6 and 7 to reach -12. Nobody bested Yang's career-low-tying 65 (Katie Futcher matched it), which featured an eagle at the par-5 6th, five birdies and zero bogeys. Kerr and Park shot their second straight 67s while Sharp and Choi posted 68 and 69 respectively. First-round leader Shanshan Feng only managed a 72, which dropped her to T9 and four shots back. Juli Inkster's 74 kicked her from T2 back to T31, seven shots behind.
As predicted, the cut was under par - 2 under, to be exact. Ai Miyazato, Kristy McPherson, Maria Hjorth, Se Ri Pak, Katherine Hull, Laura Davies (76 today), Vicky Hurst, Candie Kung and lefty Cathryn Bristow failed to advance to Saturday. 16 players made the cut on the number, including Angela Stanford, Catriona Matthew, Seon Hwa Lee, Eun-Hee Ji and Amanda Blumenherst. Making the cut this week was very important for the players in Categories 14 through 20 as their section of the Priority List will be reordered after this event. Helping their cause this week are Sarah Jane Smith, Diana D'Alessio, Stephanie Louden, Brandie Burton, Lisa Strom and Paola Moreno. The last three listed will get a paycheck for the first time in 2010. I'll post the expected changes to the Priority list early next week.
Yesterday I noticed the first starts of 2010 for Iben Tinning and Minea Blomqvist and they both missed the cut, unfortunately. But I completely missed the fact that Rachel Hetherington made her first start since recovering from a broken ankle and today, Rachel made the cut right on the number. Now if we can only get Paula Creamer, Shiho Oyama, Aree Song and Hilary Lunke back...

Did you catch the “walk n talk” interview with Val Skinner and Stacy Lewis ? Skinner asked a question, then answered it, THEN turned it over for Lewis to repeat the answer Skinner had just given. The only thing Skinner managed to do was force Lewis to scamper 150 or so yards to catch up to her group.
Nice bit of walking and talking, Val.

I like the idea of mid-round player interviews
But it’s not surprising that they don’t always get much out of it with Val. GC’s decision to move Kay Cockerill off the LPGA telecasts was a bad one. Losing her, Dottie and (for the most part) Brian Hammons really soured GC’s coverage for me.
Does Hilary Lunke have any plans for coming back ? She seems pretty content being a stay at home mom.

Lunke
I would assume she has plans for coming back because she keeps applying for and receiving medical extensions. Her 2003 U.S. Open victory exemption would have expired two years ago otherwise. You’d think she would have teed it up by now in 2010 if she was going to.
Oyama
Tim Maitland told me Shiho Oyama had elbow surgery and wasn’t expected back until the fall, but she was still on the player list for the LPGA Championship as of yesterday.
