Jamie Farr Classic - 2nd Round
Na Yeon Choi followed her Thursday 64 with a 67 on Friday to take a two-shot lead at the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic. Inbee Park, Christina Kim and Alena Sharp are tied for second at -9 while six players are tied for fifth at -6, five shots behind the leader.
Choi has taken only one bogey over the first 36 holes (oddly enough, it came on Thursday) as she has bounced back nicely from her first missed cut as an LPGA member. Park eagled the par-5 17th today to reach -9 and more than offset her second bogey of the day on the previous hole. After posting only three rounds in the 60s all season, Kim has two over the first two days here - 66 and 67. Sharp built onto her great opening round of 65 with a 68 today and like Choi has only bogeyed once in 36 holes.
The cut flirted with red numbers for a while but settled in at even par, allowing 83 players to tee it up Saturday. Among them are Brittany Lincicome, Morgan Pressel (68 today after starting with 74), Paige Mackenzie, Jill McGill (66 today) and Mikaela Parmlid (65 today). Going home are Paula Creamer, Seon Hwa Lee, Mi Hyun Kim, Jane Park, Laura Davies, Mika Miyazato and Mallory Blackwelder. After shooting 75 in Round One, Grace Park was having a great day. She went to the final hole at -1 (-5 on the day) and looking good for the weekend but she took double-bogey and missed the cut by one.
I just noticed that I messed up in calculating Creamer's made-cut streak in my post on that subject nearly two months ago. I reported that her streak of 57 straight ended when she withdrew after one round in Thailand but since there was no cut in that event, Paula couldn't possibly have missed it. Therefore, her streak continued and grew to 60 in a row - until today, when she missed the cut by two strokes. The last time Creamer missed the cut? Three years ago in this very tournament. So for the second straight week, a streak of 60-plus ended. Whose similar streak could bite the dust at Oakmont - Kerr or Pettersen?
