Women's British Open - 2nd Round
Yani Tseng carded another 68 and now leads by four shots at the RICOH Women's British Open. Cristie Kerr, Amy Yang and Brittany Lincicome are tied for second at -4 while Suzann Pettersen, Sun Young Yoo and Juli Inkster are tied for fifth at -3.
Tseng took her first bogey of the week at the par-4 3rd but that was her only one today. She birdied 2 and 6 to go -5 and then rattled off three in four holes (14, 16 and 17) to extend her lead. Kerr's 67 was the best of the day - she birdied the first two, bogeyed 8 and birdied four times on the back. Yang and Lincicome each got home in 71 but took quite different roads. Amy birdied twice and took a bogey at 13 while Brittany made the turn at -4 (-1 on the day), played 11 through 13 in +4 (double at 12) and played the last four holes in -4 (eagle at 17).
Every once in a while, one group of players gets unlucky with their tee times. This week it was the early Thursday-late Friday groups. After playing in wind and light rain to drive their scores upward Thursday morning, they got to play in heavier rain Friday afternoon. Of the 15 players currently in the Top 10, only four started later than 9:48 local time - Inkster, Jiyai Shin, In-Kyung Kim and Anne-Lise Caudal. Most of the rest were done before 2pm. As a result, the cut line kept climbing. It finally stopped at +5 with 75 players advancing to Saturday including Angela Stanford, Anna Nordqvist, Seon Hwa Lee, Mi Hyun Kim and Kris Tamulis. Heading home are defending champion Catriona Matthew, Maria Hjorth, Kristy McPherson, Hee-Won Han, Karen Stupples and Lindsey Wright. Looking over the board, this caught my eye so I thought I'd mention it - nine LET-only members made the cut, 29 did not. Just sayin'....
Paula Creamer's day wasn't going well and it got worse at 17. She played a shot from some thick rough and was in obvious pain afterwards. She finished up at +4, good enough to play on although I'm not certain she's looking forward to it.
