Updated Priority Status List
The LPGA posted the updated Priority Status list yesterday, so as usual I saved myself a copy and deliver it to you here:
Observations to come...
The first notable change was surprisingly enough, in Category 1. Na On Min's 2009 medical extension was applied to move her up from Position 81 to 66. This is the first time I've seen an extension applied this way and I certainly don't understand why Min was inserted at the #66 spot, because she was in Position 75 last year. I do understand why this change was important to Min - it makes it much more likely that she will get into the limited-field Asian Swing events this fall. This also sort of answers a question I posed concerning Paula Creamer when she underwent thumb surgery. Evidently a medical extension can be used to keep a Cat-1 player at least at a comparable level where she was prior to the injury.
In Category-8, Azahara Munoz is still in the money list Top 40 as she was in June so she remains while both Amanda Blumenherst and Gwladys Nocera fell back to their original positions in Category-11.
As for the Category 14-20 shuffle, here is how they line up (with previous positions in the third column):
|
145 146 147 148 149 150 151 152 153 154 155 156 157 158 159 160 161 162 163 164 165 166 167 |
Sarah Jane Smith Anja Monke Diana D'Alessio Ashli Bunch Mhairi McKay Alison Walshe Stephanie Louden Paola Moreno Libby Smith Asheigh Simon Carin Koch Adrienne White Meredith Duncan Cindy Lacrosse Marisa Baena Tanya Dergal Lisa Strom Christi Cano Michelle Ellis Russy Gulyanamitta Brandie Burton Cathryn Bristow Jackie Gallagher-Smith |
145 166 147 149 159 241 147 152 154 162 148 236 163 330 164 151 161 232 150 156 153 235 230 |
As I expected, Alison Walshe's T16 at Safeway vaulted her to #150. Others making a sizeable jump are Anja Monke, Mhairi McKay, Adrienne White, Futures Tour money-list leader Cindy Lacrosse and Christi Cano. The jumps by Cathryn Bristow and Jackie Gallagher-Smith aren't as big as they appear because most of the players they jumped are inactive.

How did Creamer's extension work? She didn't come in at a higher position, did she?

she hasn't needed one (yet)
I was referring to a point I made just after her surgery in April that if she couldn’t return for the rest of the year (or didn’t play more than a few times), she could request a medical extension. At the time I had only seen these extensions keep a player in the same category, and then the players were put at the very bottom of the group. My point was that if Creamer needed an extension, she would be placed around position #80 in 2011 and that would most likely keep her out of limited field events – a bad situation for her, the tournaments and the Tour itself.
