Wegmans LPGA Championship - Final Round

Yani Tseng took command on the Saturday back nine and turned Sunday into a walk in the park as she cruised to a ten shot victory at the Wegmans LPGA Championship.  At age 22 years, 5 months and 3 days, she became the youngest player in women's golf history to win four major championships.  Morgan Pressel finished in second place at -9 while Cristie Kerr, Suzann Pettersen and Paula Creamer tied for third at -8.

Tseng carried a five shot advantage into the final round and gave her competitors a glimmer of hope when she bogeyed the opening hole.  Three holes later, she had collected three birdies to move to -15 and a seven-shot lead which essentially reduced everybody else to the battle for second.  A birdie at 6 took the lead to nine, which Yani more or less maintained the rest of the day.  She birdied 17 to tie Kerr's record of -19 last year and had 15 feet for birdie at 18 but just missed the magic -20 plateau.

It figures that for the first time in four weeks that I had the opportunity to watch a round of LPGA golf, the outcome would no longer be in doubt - thanks a bunch, Yani!  Seriously though, it was rather enjoyable to sit back and watch a great player assert her position as the best in the game and hear the Golf Channel gang pile on the praise.  I myself should have a bit more of that praise for Yani in tomorrow's Epilogue.
